Ecological heritage

Whether marshland, ponds or rivers, woods or forests, seaside resorts or parks, all these remarkable sites come together to form the ecological heritage of Vendée, and are open freely to the public.

Not to be missed :

The Vendée Breton Marshes Eco-museum at la Barre-de-Monts
Come and spend a day discovering the natural and human story of the Vendée Breton Marshes. On the 15 hectares that make up this unique nature reserve you will discover a group of traditionally constructed buildings, a salt marsh, a site dedicated to the conservation of breeds of animals and varieties of plants from the past and other treasures not to be missed. Lenght of visit : 2 hours.

The Cité des Oiseaux at Les Landes-Génusson
Come and discover the secrets of the world of birds. This 54 hectare wild bird reserve has three lakes and you can wander around freely between the Discovery Centre with its museum and display areas and the two bird observatories. To the soothing songs of the birds you can study their various times of arrival, learn how to recognise them and watch their migration…

The Maison de la Rivière at Saint-Georges de Montaigu
Hidden away in its greenery and bordered by the Grande Maine, this visitor centre devoted to the freshwater world of the river is a veritable haven of peace and tranquillity. In a former watermill that is now restored, you will find a museum trail which combines interactive displays and spectacular effects in its portrayals of the secrets of the river. After your visit to the centre, take a short leisurely boat ride... or stroll along one of the various botanical trails that start from the watermill.
