Bonnotte potato festival - Noirmoutier

For the last fifteen years or so, in May, the island of Noirmoutier celebrates the island's famous "bonnotte" potato. Young producers provide entertainment such as demonstrating traditional gentle harvesting methods. A dinner is held in the cooperative, complete with musical entertainment.

Sardine and fish festivals - Saint Gilles Croix de Vie

With its strong maritime heritage and commitment to fishing and sardines, Saint Gilles Croix de Vie organises several traditional festivals each year. On the last Sunday in July, the Sardine Festival is the place to try grilled sardines or sardine soup. Enjoy local entertainment including folklore groups and sea shanty choirs. On the first Sunday in August, it is the turn of the Fish Festival, with a release of doves, grilled sardines and mussels, traditional music and sea shanties, all rounded off with dancing at the public ball. The second Sunday in August, there is a port celebration on the quayside in Port Fidèle.

Le Grand Festin - Ile d'Yeu

In 2001, sailors on the island of Yeu invited islanders to celebrate the end of the tuna fishing season as a  thank-you for the support that they gave them at the time when a decision to ban drift-net fishing was made. Wanting to recreate this highpoint in the year, the island's town hall took on the challenge and organised a festival, renaming it "Le Grand Festin", which now takes place every October.

Sheep festival - Givrand

Every year, on the third Sunday in July, the sheep festival attracts thousands of people. Spectators can enjoy sheep dog trials, sheep shearing, traditional goose racing and local folklore group. Sure to satisfy all appetites is the Mer et Vie grilled lamb.
