Prince Albert II of Monaco will start the Vendée Globe 2016

Prince Albert II of Monaco will officially start the eighth edition of the Vendée Globe on Sunday 6 November 2016 in Les Sables-d'Olonne. He has been selected as the official sponsor for his "international image and his love of the sport". He has an exceptional sporting pedigree, having participated in athletics, football, tennis, judo, rowing, sailing, skiing, squash, swimming, bobsleigh and modern pentathlon. He also took part in the Olympic Games, representing Monaco in bobsleigh.

Vendée takes centre stage in Paris during the Vendée Globe

Vendée will have an established presence at the Vendée Globe 2016 PC Course in Paris, right by the Eiffel Tower. Vendée will be running a series of events throughout the race, from 7 November 2016, focusing on a particular Vendée destination each week.

Arnaud Boissières

Arnaud Boissières: the project gathers pace.

"I finished my first race in 105 days and my second in 91 days. It's going to be quite a challenge to get below 90 days." This is the challenge that Arnaud Boissières has set himself for his third attempt at the round-the-world solo yacht race. He is one of only nine sailors to have completed the Vendée Globe twice in a row and, if successful this year, he will be the first to achieve three consecutive finishes. Arnaud Boissières will be relying on the support of La Mie Câline to help him achieve his goal. The Les Sables-d'Olonne-based skipper is the 22nd participant to register for this year's event, and will be setting sail aboard his Farr yacht, first launched in 2007, on 6 November.

Jean Pierre Dick

Jean-Pierre Dick ready for the Vendée Globe

Jean-Pierre Dick has completed 3,600 nautical miles between the Canary Islands, Cape Verde, the Azores and Lorient, and has now completed his solo training. The skipper is now ready to set sail on 6 November 2016 on board his vessel, StMichel-Virbac. On 2 May this year, he will be taking part in the trans-Atlantic race from Plymouth to New York. This will be followed by the return crossing, from New York to Les Sables-d'Olonne, on 29 May.

Romain Attanasio

Romain Attanasio officially registered for the Vendée Globe

Romain Attanasio, partner of English sailor Samantha Davies, will be taking part in his very first Vendée Globe race. Yet the 38-year-old from Finistère is no novice, since he already has 10 Solitaire du Figaro races under his belt. He will be taking part in Tanguy de Lamotte's former vessel.
