Beaches and biodiversity

Many Vendéen coastal towns and villages (Saint Hilaire de Riez, La Barre de Monts, Barbâtre, La Faute sur Mer...) have chosen specially adapted solutions to keep their beaches clean. In reality, the beaches are not just leisure spaces, but are firstly living natural environments which exist between the sea and the dunes. At high tide the sea deposits a bar of algae mixed with marine plants and organisms. This natural deposit is an environmental asset essential for the stabilisation of the dunes and their ecosystem. Therefore, mechanical cleaning is only permitted on the most popular beaches. The more untamed beaches are cleaned by hand to ensure that the biodiversity is not harmed.

The attractive coastline, state forests and pinewoods are eagerly waiting for you to visit and picnic and walk along the GR8.

Explore the Vendée by bike on the 200 kilometres of coastal cycle path (150 km of which is exclusively for cycling), which links Bouin to L'Aiguillon sur Mer, and includes the islands of Noirmoutier and Yeu.
Don't miss out on the charm and tranquillity of inland sites, within reach of the coveted beaches.
