MUSÉE DU CHÂTEAU DE NOIRMOUTIERNOIRMOUTIER-EN-L'ILE
Built at the end of the 12th century, this medieval castle, one of the most well-preserved castles of western France, houses a museum. The latest restorations (2006-2008) revealed the watchtower's transformations as a seigniorial residence. On the occasion of the 220th anniversary of Charette's death (rifled down in Nantes on March, 29th 1796), the château museum wanted to recount the revolutionary period (1789-1800), and also to continue giving the keys of the island history. The exhibition "Noirmoutier island during the revolutionary upheaval" takes place in the donjon, from the 2nd up to the 4th floor. Housed in a former school built in 1891, the museum presents the daily life in the early twentieth century the inhabitants of the Land of Olonnes region both maritime and rural. Discover through six exhibition halls, traditional crafts, costumes and headdresses, a rural interior, activities seaside, class and memories of the 1914-1918 war. Fun course for children. Open all year. In July and August from 15h to 18h30 and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10am to 12pm.
