Each year, some 120 bird species are recorded in the reserve, including blackwinged stilt, redshank, marsh harrier, black-tailed godwit, pintail, spoonbill, lapwing, teal, wigeon and greylag goose.
From the park headquarters in Saint Denis du Payré, where visitors arrive, it is a further 2 km to the reserve itself. A 400 m raised walkway, which makes
it possible to visit the site at any time of year without the need for specialist equipment, provides access to the covered observation post, where visitors will find seating and no less than 18 telescopes. Expert guides are present at all times.
