PRIEURE DE GRAMMONT

SAINT PROUANT

Founded at the behest of Richard the Lionheart in about 1200, this priory of the Grandmont order is one of the best preserved in France.

Its chapel and monastic buildings, including the chapter room, kitchen, serving hatch and guest quarters, remain in excellent condition. The architectural ensemble sets off the beauty of its simple stonework with innovative features which include a display of the Treasure of Grandmont using Alioscopy technology and virtual tours of the medieval site (in the form of a 3D film).
Exhibition: Between heaven and earth, Romanesque sculpture in the Vendée.
From 12th May to 13th June: “Festival des Voûtes célestes” (Festival of Heaven) - sacred music in the Abbeys of the Southern Vendée.
16th & 23rd July, 20th and 27th August: “Les Veillées du Prieuré” (Priory Vigils): medieval music and song.
