Built at the end of the 12th century, this medieval castle, one of the most well-preserved castles of western France, houses a museum. The latest restorations (2006-2008) revealed the watchtower's transformations as a seigniorial residence.
With its dominant position, the donjon offers the most remarkable view of the island. The castle of Noirmoutier is registered as a Monument Historique since 1994 and its musem is certified Musée de France since 2003.
