A transitional monument between the early Romanesque and the classical Romanesque, it was listed as a historic monument in 1908.
The church of Saint-Nicolas, consecrated in 1099, was at the time the largest in Poitou. Despite the collapse of the apse, its majesty is still evident in the astonishing height of its nave and the light that pours in from its windows. This height and luminosity are quite exceptional in Romanesque churches.
