Fief Vendéen of Vix – it’s time to “wine” down!

The French wine regions around Vix follows a loop which covers 68km. A privileged route to discover the local AOC Fiefs Vendéen wines but also the traditional architectural and engineering heritage.

Water is the essence of the Southern Vendée. The Lay, the Mère, the Vendée, the Jeune Autise or the Sèvre Niortaise, the main artery of the Marais poitevin .. are all rivers, streams or waterways that give this territory an exceptional flora and fauna. Le Gouffre à l'île d'Elle, an incredible 17th century Hydraulic construction

This unique hydraulic structure was the result of the know-how of the 17th century scientific elite. At the time, the main concern was to drain this marshy area. The construction was built in 1663-1664 to prevent the waters of Vendée and the Vix canal from crossing each other and mixing.
