A collapsed staircase, a dislocated roof, the watch room and the maze of covered walkways inaccessible, floors gone, chimneys rising into the void, vaulted rooms flooded, a treasure nowhere to be found - it has been transformed, disfigured, tortured...
But by some miracle, it has survived and continues to watch over a phantom ocean that has become marshland, sheltered by its green setting. Waiting perhaps for mankind to heal its wounds and grant it a well-deserved golden retirement...
